Eugendorf
meets the pearl of Traunsee

Gmunden

World-famous for its ceramics, Gmunden draws visitors thanks to its magical location on Traunsee, in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria and surrounded by mountains, though also due to its cultural past and connection to the Austrian monarchy.

Gmunden

Gmunden – a magical town in the Upper Austrian reaches of the Salzkammergut – on the northern shore of idyllic Traunsee. Even back in the days of the Austrian monarchy, Gmunden was a popular destination for summer holidaymakers, with several beautiful villas still evoking those times. Amble across the magnificent Rathausplatz and marvel at the artistic building facades. Stroll along the romantic esplanade and enjoy the view of fairytale Schloss Ort with picturesque mountains in the background. How about a leisurely cup of coffee and slice of delicious cake in the Toscanapark?

Schloss Ort

Schloss Ort is a special jewel of Gmunden – ensconced picturesquely on a small island in Traunsee. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut region and was also used as the shooting location for a hit television series “Schlosshotel Orth”. Venerable walls with much to tell, rich in history, owners and visitors: knights, counts, the Habsburgs, archdukes and more. Today, the Schloss houses a museum and is also a popular, fascinating event location. It is connected by bridge to Landschloss Ort.

Traunsee Ferries

The glistening, clear-as-glass water of Traunsee, with the massive rock face of the Traunstein in the background. This lake rightly enjoys its reputation as one of the crown jewels of the Salzkammergut. No wonder, then, that boat tours during the summer months are in high demand. Enjoy an incomparably beautiful cruise – ideally, out on the sundeck. They say: It fulfills yearnings and dreams. Traunsee-Schifffahrt looks back on a long tradition. In fact, two Englishmen founded a steamship company here back in 1839. And to this day, the historic paddle steamer “Gisela” continues to radiate an incredible nostalgic feeling.
